Adding a physical Item to your store (a real time example):

  • Choose product type first — Physical, Digital/Download, or Service; can't change it later so pick carefully

  • Product name — use descriptive, searchable words (e.g. include technique, material, style) to help with SEO

  • Description — include materials, dimensions, and any important notes (e.g. "message me at checkout to choose your pair"); can add a custom form for more specific customer input that are more complex than variants.

  • Images — rename files descriptively before uploading; add unique alt text to each image; set your featured/thumbnail image; resize to under 500KB as JPEGs

  • Pricing — set regular price. Sale price? I use discount codes rather than sale prices to avoid editing every item individually.

  • Stock — set to 1 for one-of-a-kind pieces; unlimited for made-to-order; getting this wrong means overselling

  • SKU numbers — optional but useful for tracking; create a simple numbering system that works for you

  • Variants — add size, color, or other options; each variant can have its own photo, price, SKU, and stock level

  • Shipping — assign a shipping profile; items with weight/dimensions may need exact measurements for calculated shipping

  • Categories — use to organize and filter products; can be nested but keep it simple; avoid over-organizing

  • Tags — skip unless you have a specific use for them; they don't function as meta tags for SEO

  • SEO section — clean up the auto-generated URL slug (remove filler words); title and description can pull from your product name and description

  • Featured product — flag items to appear in homepage summary/featured blocks; refresh these regularly

  • Publish options — publish immediately, save as hidden, or schedule for a future date
