Starting with Sections (Fluid Engine)

  • Pages are made up of sections — each section is a contained, editable unit marked by blue brackets

  • Fluid Engine vs. Classic Editor — Squarespace now runs on Fluid Engine (grid-based); Classic Editor will be covered separately

  • Adding sections — use Squarespace's prefab sections (look for the exclamation point icon for list/gallery sections) or add a blank one and build from scratch

  • Grid system — blocks snap to a grid; adjusting the grid spacing helps with even image placement and consistent layouts

  • Section padding — controls the space above and below content within a section; set to zero to butt sections flush against each other

  • Blocks you can add: text, images, buttons, shapes, dividers, and more — hover the left corner of a section to access them

  • Full-width images — drag image blocks to the orange edge line to make them flush with the browser edge, bypassing site margins

  • Dividers — use sparingly and thoughtfully; section color changes often look better than a dividing line

  • Anchor links — add to any section so you can link directly to that spot on the page from anywhere on the site

  • Duplicate sections — great for maintaining a consistent look; just swap out the content

  • Save sections — save a section you love to reuse it across pages or even across multiple websites on your account

  • Layers panel — shows all blocks in the section; useful for reordering, hiding elements, and editing in mobile view
