Adding and Editing Images:
Adding an image — add a block, select image, then upload from desktop, asset library, phone, or stock photos
Image alignment — set alignment (up/down, left/right) so the right part of the image shows when cropped responsively
In the content tab — upload, replace, delete, link, rename file, and add alt text
Native image editor includes: brightness/contrast adjustments, cropping, flipping, and filters — edits create a new copy, original is preserved in the asset library
Design tab options:
Fit — shows whole image with possible empty space
Fill — crops image to fill the container
Stretch — stretches image to fit the container shape
Shape — crop image into a preset shape
Overlay — add a color overlay with adjustable transparency (useful for background images with text on top)
Lightbox — click to open a larger version with dark or light theme overlay
Transforms/animations — new Squarespace finish layer feature; skip for now
Core advice: crop and resize images before uploading rather than relying on the in-platform editor — cleaner and faster
Set Focal Points:
Focal point — a small white circle in the image content settings that tells Squarespace which part of the image to keep visible as the site resizes responsively
Why it matters — as the layout shifts on different screen sizes, images get cropped; the focal point ensures the most important part stays in view
Set it to the center of your subject, a face, or whatever detail matters most in the image
Quick but important step — easy to overlook and easy to fix
