Working with pages
Two page sections — Main Navigation (visible in nav) and Not Linked (hidden but still accessible via direct link)
Page types — blank pages are the most commonly used; Squarespace also offers pre-styled templates for galleries, blogs, etc.
Three separate name fields per page — Page Title (browser tab), Navigation Title (nav bar), and URL Slug (web address); they can all differ but are usually the same
SEO settings per page — customize the SEO title and description; keep descriptions to ~50 characters since that's what Google displays
Page visibility options:
Enabled/disabled (disabled = no one can visit it)
Hidden from search engines (page still works, just not indexed — good for privacy policy pages)
Password protected (share link + password with select people)
Duplicate pages to save time and keep the site consistent — great for project or gallery pages
Header/footer can be hidden per page — useful for landing pages, "coming soon" pages, or newsletter pages
Social sharing image can be set per page or globally; useful for controlling what appears when shared on social media
Deleted pages go to a trash folder — restore if needed, but empty it regularly to keep the site clean and fast
"Old" folder trick — create a disabled folder in Not Linked to store pages you're not ready to delete; also useful for duplicating and experimenting on pages before going live
⭐ Core advice: keep your site tidy — disable or delete unused pages so they don't slow things down
